Disguised as a prim schoolteacher, Aubrey Granger travels to Santa Fe to avenge a past wrong and encounters Christian McBride, a man who had been jailed for a crime he did not commit.
As reviewed by Kathe Robin of Romantic Times "Under The Desert Moon is the 'Silverado' of Western romances. [She] has incorporated every wonderful scene from every memorable Western into one extraordinary novel. With the vivid prose, vibrant descriptions, a delightful cast of characters (including Billy the Kid), fast-paced action and a strong story (to say nothing of the wonderful romance), readers will be spellbound. Ms Canham demonstrates the rare ability to breathe life into characters and situations in every historical era and setting. Yippee!!"

Under The Desert Moon edition by Marsha Canham Romance eBooks
Aubrey Granger has waited ten long years to grow up and the chance return to Santa Fe to destroy the man she blames for sending his henchmen to kill her family and burn down their home (she was left for dead). Disguised as a plain schoolmarm for the stagecoach ride she meets up with just-out-of-Leavenworth-Prison Christian McBride (he's a hottie), and he seems to be the only one on the stagecoach that sees through her disguise and suspects she's up to more than teaching kids when she gets to town. The journey from Kansas is not without its ups and downs and some tense moments with the Indians, but Aubrey finally arrives in Santa Fe and begins her planned downfall of nefarious business man Maxwell Fleming - and Christian is none too pleased to find her apparently thick as thieves with the man he blames for sending him up the river for trumped up murder charges. That's the basic run down and you really don't need to know much more going in, there are just too many surprises and plot twists to even try to recap it all. This is very much a historical romance and don't plan on taking things too seriously, because I'm fairly positive the author had her tongue firmly planted in her cheek while writing it. The barbs and one liners flew as much as the bullets did (we even get a very young Billy the Kid), but hats off to Lily Colorado for getting all the best lines. There is plenty of steamy sex between our pair, along with adult language so I definitely don't recommend this for the younger set, but those wanting a lighter read that still contains a real plot along with a healthy dose of romance might want to give this one a whirl.
Oh, and loved the epilogue and glad that little issue was brought back up and resolved.

Under The Desert Moon edition by Marsha Canham Romance eBooks Reviews
Ms Canham delivers a rugged, true to the core western adventure! I felt like I was right there in that stagecoach with Aubrey-Ms Blue, the dapper drinking, Darby Greaves and the Jewel of New Orleans, Magenta Royale. Lets not forget incomparable, Ambruster P. Shillingsworth! Last joining their ranks was the handsome plainsman, Christian McBride and his not so welcomed sidekick, a Ute Indian Sun Shadow. Driving the coach is the wiry, Stink Finger Jim Brody. They head out from Great bend, Kansas across the rough plains tempered with Comanche to Santa Fe, each with a tangled web of ulterior reasons for their trip. Climb aboard and hang on tight! The ride gets wild and dangerous, but well worth every second!
I would not have picked up a romance set in the American west but for it being written by Marsha Canham, my favorite romance author. But it was so worth it--she has delivered the mail again! This is a great story of a girl who has lost everything to an evil villain who places power and wealth above all, and of a tall handsome plainsman with a past, Christian McBride, who finds Aubrey Blue, the blue-eyed, dark haired schoolteacher on the stagecoach fascinating. But all is not as it seems. As they head through an Indian infested desert at high speed, the danger is all about them, but oh those nights under that moon. And then, in Santa Fe, the real fun starts as Aubrey shows talents Christian is shocked to discover. Oh yes, you'll love this one. It's a keeper and you'll read it again, I'm sure.
Before my I didn't read the romance novel genre too much because it's a hard category to choose a book. It was quite hard to know what was good and what was not. But with the I've been able to sample lots of free and inexpensive options and found a few authors that I've liked so far. Marsha Canham has been one of my new favorite authors to discover. After reading a couple of her novels set around pirates and ships it was nice reading a book set in another setting the old west.
In Under the Desert Moon we read about both Aubrey and Christian who are travelling on a stagecoach. While on the stagecoach they end up dealing with all kinds of things like Indian attacks. Aubrey is travelling under the guise of being a schoolteacher, but Christian is the one to realize she's not who she says she is. All she wants to do is focus on getting revenge on the man who left her for dead years ago after attacking her family. She somehow was able to manage to get to safety but her anger has festered all of these years since.
Throughout the book we are taken on the travels and adventures that Aubrey and Christian are on and it's descriptive enough that you feel like you are on the journey as well. I'll continue to read Marsha Canham in the future as long as she continues to entertain with her romance novels.
This is my first novel by Marsha Canham and I did like her writing. I liked the concept of the book and thought it had a lot of potential, it just didn't quite live up to what I was hoping for though. I didn't think enough time was spent on just the H/h together building their relationship. They were together during the trip to NM, but there are so many other people around and so many distractions that I didn't feel a strong connection developing b/t Christian and Aubrey. There is quite a lot of action and while I expected some of that in a book like this, I was really hoping for more romance. At several points I found myself skimming through parts saying "Really? This indian attack is STILL going on??" Or, "Wow, another shoot-out?" The author did a good job of showing us the physical attraction between the H/h, but I wasn't 100% sure when they fell in love b/c Aubrey was constantly lying and hiding her feelings and true motives from the hero. And Christian never really knew anything about Aubrey other than he enjoyed having sex with her. There were a lot of bad guys, friends, helpers, relatives and it just felt like the story overtook the romance. Having said that, I will try other books by this author b/c I have a feeling she can do better than this.
