Author Q&A

Q - Where did you come up with the idea for Not That Type of Guy?

A - I love this book. Not that type of Guy is based off Beauty and The Beast. Yes, Aiden is super sexy, but inside, he believes he is disgusting. His soul has been damaged by being an assassin. He thinks he’s too damaged to be loved, thus he’s a beast. Trace Williams is pure. He’s the good guy that is almost too good to be true, especially when compared to Aiden. This story delves deep into how each character feels about himself and what he is willing to accept.

Q - When you were writing this story, how did you go so dark?

A - Music sets a mood for me. I picked a couple over very dark songs and listened to them over and over again. I plotted out the story then wrote in a compressed timeframe during NaNoWriMo, waking long before the sun came up and going to bed late.

Q - Did you feel comfortable writing about a CIA Assassin?

A - It was an interesting exercise in research. I had to go down some rabbit holes, searching for information. Of course, I took a few liberties and built Aiden’s house of lies very carefully, but hours of police classes, mixed with crime classes for writers went into this book.

Q - Speaking of research, how do you research for a thriller?

A - Like I mentioned above, I’ve taken a lot of classes. I’ve spent over 300 hours in police, FBI, crime, and medical classes learning techniques. I’ve gone to workshops presented by ex-assassins—yes, there are some out there—and I’ve been open to traveling long distances to gain a small amount of knowledge. I think being an author is an awesome adventure, and part of that is because I’ve worked hard to find adventures to go on, supplementing my knowledge and learning new things.

Q - Who do you like better Aiden or Trent?

A – Since this story delves into how the beastly character changes, I focused on Aiden. I focused on getting into his head and learning what made him tick. He is a spy and assassin, so he’s built differently than just the average person, but he’s still a good person. Deep down, he is fighting for right, even if his methods are questionable.

I loved how attraction and self-realization tore Aiden apart so much so that he kept fighting that same attraction. Love and lust can make a strong man weak and human. Aiden had always fought his inner self and his attraction to males. He denied it. He was a mess.

The private desires he had weren't for real, just pent up lust. The need for release had him hot and bothered. No gayness at all, just desire making his dick hard and his balls full. Liar, liar.

Trace did not deny being gay. He didn't shout it out but he did not hide. He saw Aiden suffering through a date with a female. He saw Aiden check him out. He followed Aiden to the men's room. He approached Aiden.

"It's your life buddy; don't waste it trying to be something you're not. Here's my card if you ever...well, you know. My personal number is on the back."

Trace and Aiden had more problems that Aiden's sexual confusion. Trace was a doctor. He saved lives. He could never accept Trace's profession. He could never accept killings.

The emotional turmoil in both characters' lives kept me reading. They were both interesting and dedicated to their professions. Aiden's journey was rough. Trace's was tragic. I loved them and their story.

Not That Type of Guy eBook Sara York Reviews

If you're into spies questioning their sexuality or doctors going after what they want Not That Type of Guy might just be the book for you. Insta-love, hot sex, and dangerous situations keep you quickly turning the pages.
Aiden Johnson is trying really hard. The CIA assassin walks the straight and narrow, doing his job, dating gorgeous women, being the man his dad would want him to be. He's never really done anything about the lingering thoughts he might have about other guys.

Until a fellow agent, on a mission with him, goes down on him as part of dodging the bad guys. That may have been taking their cover a bit far, but it did the job. And made Aiden think those thoughts again.

When he meets Dr. Trace Williams, he's determined to stay straight, be who he knows he is. Then Trace kisses him and throws his whole world into a tail spin. Makes him question himself, all his decisions, who he chooses to be. And scared him back into the arms of women. Only...it doesn't work anymore.

He can't fight his attraction anymore. Trace hits all his hot buttons. But he can't be gay. Can he?

Now his life is in danger - he's the target after a blotched job. And his fledgling relationship with Trace? It may be over before it really starts now that Trace knows what Aiden really does. He may have to leave the love of his life in order to keep him safe. Is he really THAT type of guy?

Sara York has captured all the joy and stomach-wrenching fear that comes with admitting to oneself the truth that one is different. Gay. And she nails it. This is a sometimes funny, sometimes sad, sometimes heartbreaking story of one man's journey up to and through the fire. And, it's a hell of a good action story too.

Aiden breaks my heart. So much angst, history, uncertainty. He has to come to terms with what he's suppressed and hidden for so long, and it almost destroys him. He's built such a self-image of manly stud, and now he's forced to deal with the fact he's still that same guy. Just, he likes men now.

And Trace - he's funny, self-righteous. Sure of himself and knows what he wants. Isn't afraid to admit he wants a relationship and wants Aiden. Then his whole world is turned upside down and he isn't so sure he can be that man for Aiden anymore.

I liked the romance here, but I loved the front burner story of who is behind the attempts on Aiden's life too. There's a great tie-in that brings the two men together and I. Loved. It.

Ms. York has a great touch with her story-telling, and kept me totally involved, bouncing back and forth with the adventure and the romance.

Great story.

WOW, what a story, it was absolutely wonderful. There is so much drama, excitement, hot characters, love and hot romance. This is definitely a must read, you won't be disappointed. This Author is great, one of my favorite! Many Thanks, Honey Bee🐝📚💙🎶
This is a very emotionally exhausting book. The characters are incredibly well-defined and the plot is unique and kind of haunting. I think we all lie to ourselves about some area of our personalities, and being honest with ourselves is very difficult. I really loved the depth of this book. Great read!
I love it when Sara York writes spy novels! These two were great... sexy spy and hunky doctor figure out how to get over their issues to find love and a way to be together - Sara tells this story with a punch - nothing sappy about it. Fell in love with these characters and the story right away. This is a Sara York MUST read book. It feels a lot like the Colorado series without having anything to do with that series - so if you liked those books, you'll love this one too.
Never read anything by this author. Stumbled into it through another author. This story was super intense and full of discovery. Aiden works for the government and thinks he has everything figured out in life until a mission starts to go south. Aiden discovers things about himself that he knew deep down but refused to accept. Grace is a doctor who was okay with who he was. Situations happened making both understand the other side. I really enjoyed this book.
Aiden Jackson broke my heart. He is tough as nails working for the CIA as an assassin, former Navy SEAL and fighting the fact that he is gay. God what would his father say? He was beat to within an inch of his life for masturbating to an NBA calendar (and not the one with the cheerleaders) by his dad and brothers. He can’t be gay. But then why did he like it so much when Chuck kissed him and gave him the best blow job of his life? Was it just the situation? That doesn’t explain his attraction to Doctor Trace Williams the guy who gave him his card when he was out on a date with a hot girl. They are total opposites. Trace is comfortable with his sexuality and a Doctor who saves lives. Aiden not so much. Watching these two fall in love is heartwarming. Watching Aiden find himself is a joy. I really enjoyed this book.
